What Is Thermal Imaging?

Thermal imaging uses infrared technology to detect very small differences in temperature. Every material emits infrared radiation. A material’s thermal signature changes with the introduction of moisture, heat, cold or wood-destroying insects. The changes can be minor or significant, but with thermal graphic-scanning technology the changes are detectable, whereas they couldn’t be seen with the naked eye. These thermal-signature differences can be used to identify areas where corrective action is needed.

Energy Conservation

We can help reduce your fuel bills by identifying areas losing heat or cold. A simple thermal scan of your home’s exterior can identify areas that are poorly insulated. A common cause of thermal loss is window-seal failure. However, there are other areas of significant heat loss that can negate the benefits bestowed by window replacement. An internal scan of your home can identify ways to improve efficiency of your appliances. The scan can also determine unbalanced loads on circuit breaker panels. Moisture problems in walls, and the resulting molds and fungi, can be detected as well.

Pipe BlockagePredictive Maintenance

Equipment failure is always inconvenient for a home owner. But it can be disastrous for a business owner. Preventative maintenance can help keep equipment running, although the equipment must be idle during inspection. Infrared technology inspects the equipment while it is in service, thereby determining the conditions caused by its operation. Our technology can identify blocked lubrication of drain lines and excessive wear on mating surfaces that can cause expensive repairs if unnoticed. We can locate blockages in pipes before ever starting repairs, and we can locate roof moisture and heat loss during a home inspection. We can also detect shot bearings on motor shafts or bad electrical connections before their failure results in downtime. We can even check the integrity of electrical and hydraulic circuits during an initial installation.

HouseAll equipment has a thermal signature. This signature, once recorded, can be used to monitor for changes that can identify component failure within the equipment. All this is done during operation. No scheduled downtime is necessary. In fact, the process cannot be performed on an idle piece of equipment. You can perform predictive maintenance while your business is being productive.
